Mobile phones will need to put added focus on video features if the expected growth of analogue mobile TV comes about, according to an industry expert.
Video could be key to the future of mobile phones due to the expected growth of analogue mobile TV, according to an industry expert.
Brian Turner, executive editor of Techwatch.co.uk, believes that the number of applications now available are essentially turning mobiles into "portable PCs", making video all the more important.
Although he still feels the question of how to fund mobile TV remains a difficult one to answer because of the economic crisis, he is aware that some companies are looking at using micropayments.
He added: "The expectation is that the number of users engaging with mobile TV will increase as the technology becomes more accessible."
Mr Turner highlighted the growth of the mobile market in Asian countries, such as India and China, as being a big help in finding popularity across the world.
Mobile TV usage is estimated to grow to 300 million users by 2013, according to a report published by Telegent Systems and In-Stat.
