Mobile TV 'does not have enough content'

Mobile TV needs to increase the content available, as major distributors are currently restricting their material, says an industry commentator.

Mobile TV must find a way to receive more content if it is to become a significant viewing platform, an industry commentator has suggested.

Brian Turner, executive editor at the online publication Techwatch, commented that major media distributors are still restricting access to their material as they are worried that they could lose money or be exposed to copyright theft.

As well as a lack of existing content, he pointed out that there are not many companies producing the sort of low-resolution, short-burst videos that would work well on a mobile.

He said: "The trend has been slowly but surely changing over recent years, but it remains to be seen how much mainstream content will work for mobile viewing."

Mr Turner also highlighted the issue of changing user habits as a challenge that mobile TV would need to overcome to be successful.

Results of a survey by Deloitte released earlier this month showed that 29 per cent of people felt that being able to watch TV online was of little importance to them.
